Job Description:Under general supervision: 30% Lead the development of an action plan for the WDNR Forestry Divison as part of the Statewide Forest Planning process. Work with forestry partners to mutually identify roles for statewide forest plan implementation. 30% Provide expert staff support to the Wisconsin Council on Forestry governor’s conference implementation team; analyze data and coordinate the development of action proposals; develop communication tools to foster communication between action teams; plan forums and conferences on critical issues. 30% Team with the division’s Forestry Planner and Inventory Analyst to advise the division on the adoption of a framework of forestry criteria and indicators (C&I) for monitoring forest sustainability. Devlelop proposals for incorporating C&I into division work systems for forest certification, state forest master planning, etc. Incorporate C&I into the systems for periodic statewide forest assessment and statewide forest plan revision. 10% Monitor the implementation of the division’s Smart Forestry for Smart Growth initiative. Review sample plans to assess plan improvement over time. Work with planners, regional planning commissions, and consultants to improve the usefulness of Web based planning tools.

Knowledge Required: Applicants must have sufficient training and experience to demonstrate that, upon appointment, the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks have been acquired. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and use of e-mail. Applicant must be a self-starter who is punctual and can work independently. Must be able to work on a variety of tasks with little supervision. Good organizational skills and ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and presentations. The ideal candidate will have senior level planning experience or an advanced degree with knowledge of natural resource planning issues and systems with specific knowledge of forestry concepts. Knowledge of GIS for data analysis is a plus.
