The Department of Administration, Division of Enterprise Technology is seeking a Geographic Information Officer to coordinate Wisconsin’s geospatial information activities.
Job Duties:
The GIO reports directly to the state’s Chief Information Officer and will facilitate the coordination of GIS activities amongst state agencies, counties, cities and tribal governments. This position will enforce the adoption of appropriate data sharing and best practices; maintain effective, robust land programs while meeting the Governor’s objective of reducing the size of government; identify and prepare documents describing strategic directions for enterprise-wide geographic information systems; and make recommendations on awarding grants to fund geospatial data and to create information sharing agreements with various units of government.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of geographic data and mapping with a focus on the “vision”; background in GIS technology including a thorough knowledge of GIS software and familiarity with database software. IT skills emphasizing GIS. Proven ability to produce reports and papers on policies, advocating appropriate initiatives to government partners. Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to work at the highest levels of government in an effective manner. Organizational skills and experience analyzing enterprise business and technology issues in a large corporation or governmental organization.
