This position is for a graduate student with experience in geospatial data and technologies. The position is funded by the National Science Foundation as part of a research grant on information integration for geospatial data. The project includes working on geospatial ontologies and a Geospatial Semantic Web. The student will help locate and interpret geospatial data that can be used in examples to drive research solutions to semantic data integration. The ability to write results to be included in research papers is also needed. Interpersonal skills are needed for potential interactions with local, state, and federal geospatial data providers and users. Other useful skills include the ability to create posters (e.g., using Illustrator) and generate GIS maps (e.g., ArcView, ArcGIS). Optional abilities include a Computer Science background, especially in the Database area (e.g., CS564). Knowledge of AI and Semantic Web technologies is also optional. The student in this position will be interacting with another graduate student whose focus is on developing associated computer technologies.
