The incumbent of this position serves as a Soil Conservation Technician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Resources Office.
Major Duties:
Provides practical assistance to land users and units of government required in the planning, application, and maintenance of land management systems. Makes contacts with clients, compiles data and information needed in the development of conservation plans according to procedures outlined in the National Planning Practices Planning Handbook. Independently develops conservation alternatives to meet the client’s objectives included the conservation compliance requirements of the current farm bill. Presents conservation alternatives to the client, assists client with the selection and scheduling of conservation practices, and creates conservation plan utilizing GIS and computerized planning tools. Independently performs conservation plan and conservation compliance status reviews. Determines need, feasibility, and probable conservation results of conservation practices in treating various resource needs and recommends alternative practices as well as means by which practices already applied or to be applied can be integrated into systems within the total conservation plan. Establishes and maintains a current follow-up schedule of landowners having conservation plans which require the application of practices over a period of time. Conducts onsite inspections. Independently creates surveys, plots profiles/cross section, and develops engineering construction plans utilizing manual and automated techniques. Coordinates the scheduling of the design, layout, and application of conservation practices within the County and Program Delivery Team Assesses the need, plans for, and works with the land owner and contract crews in applying multiple soil conservation measures. Makes arrangements for tours and meetings. Prepares news articles. Utilizes complex survey equipment and engineering software programs. Scheduled and conducts tours and demonstrations of soil and water conservation practices and explains benefits to individuals and groups. Regularly prepares conservation articles for publication. Required to operate a motor vehicle in carrying out assigned duties. Supports and participates in the Civil Rights program activities.
