Job Description/Duties:
Develop and carry out project assignments such as comprehensive plans, neighborhood plans and focus-area plans. Assist with the preparation of tax increment financing district plans, Brownfield redevelopment plans, historic preservation programs, and annexation strategy plans. Conduct research and special projects utilizing GIS applications, prepare background information, assist in establishing and assessing criteria in addition to making decisions and recommendations regarding various planning projects. Also assist the Department in utilizing GIS to its full capabilities, which may include staff training. Represent the City at various meetings of neighborhood, technical, business and interagency organizations. Also represent the Planning Division on interdepartmental teams. Prepare grant applications, requests for proposals, and requests for qualifications for redevelopment programs and special projects. Provide demographic information to other staff, developers, boards, and the public. Work with other agencies to provide information and serve as the contact person with the U.S. Census Bureau, providing local input into preparation for each census.
Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Urban Planning or related field with emphasis in GIS and Urban Planning, plus 3 years of experience in urban planning using GIS. Masters Degree in Geography, Urban Planning or related field with emphasis in GIS and Urban Planning may substitute for experience. Must have considerable knowledge of and ability to use ESRI GIS software and related products. Working knowledge of urban planning and economic development programs is required. Knowledge of the political, social and economic implications of city planning is necessary.
