Duties:
Design, develop and maintain two spatially referenced wetland databases; one for tracking wetland restoration projects using field data and the second to be a statewide layer of the extent of reed canary grass dominated wetlands based on classifying Landsat satellite imagery. Develop import processes from existing databases in other agencies and develop a protocol for field data collection that incorporates Clean Water Act and North American Wetlands Conservation Act reporting needs into the design of the restoration tracking system. Integrate the restoration database and the reed canary grass inventory with other Department and federal data reporting systems to provide uniform and consistent information for wetland managers and decision-makers. Analyze and recommend a GIS data structure to accommodate future wetland assessment data.
Knowledge and Skill Required
Knowledge and experience in the development of natural resources information systems including field data collection, data modeling, GIS and the creation of natural resource applications. Knowledge of remote sensing technologies and classification techniques including aerial photography, satellite imagery, and ground control use in natural resources. Knowledge of wetland ecology and experience working with wetland applications. Working knowledge of Arc GIS 8.3 or higher and SDE; working knowledge of Access and experience with SQL queries. Excellent skill in communicating with both technical/specialist and non-technical people.
