The successful candidate will work out of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College’s GIS Lab and Sustainable Living Institute on a variety of teaching, research and outreach projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and instruct GIS, GPS and remote sensing courses and workshops.
2. Maintain Geospatial Lab software, network, and equipment
3. Work with SLI and other LCOOCC staff to develop and coordinate the LCOOCC Internship Program.
3. Mentor and supervise student interns working on outreach projects out of SLI.
4. Assist with the development and implementation of research proposals and projects.
5. Assist LCOOCC faculty with the integration of geospatial technology across the curriculum.
6. Assist with the development and maintenance of the SLI website.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

1. Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS software, ERDAS Imagine and/or other remote sensing software; Trimble GPS equipment/software.
2. Knowledge of ArcIMS or other web-based mapping platforms; CAD software.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher
3. Ability to develop and maintain website/web pages.
4. Ability to maintain geospatial lab equipment/software/network.
5. Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills
6. Ability to work with a diverse faculty on curriculum integration projects.
7. Grant and report writing experience.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a Master’s Degree with preference given to those with a strong environmental background coupled w/formal and practical training in GIS and/or remote sensing. At least 2 years of GIS/GPS and/or remote sensing project management experience is required. Applicants must have undergraduate teaching experience or be able to demonstrate the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarship. Applicants should have a strong interest in being part of an active research program and be committed to project-based learning. The applicant must have a vision for involving undergraduates in projects that give the Lac Courte Oreilles, Red Cliff, Bad River and St. Croix Communities the ability to manage and protect their environmental resources.
