Forester/ GIS Coordinator

Price County is accepting applications for a Forester/GIS Coordinator. The essential functions of this position include assisting in the establishment and administration of timber sales, development and maintenance of GIS system, overseeing the planting, pruning, harvesting and timber stand improvement of 92,000 acres of Price County forests. In addition, this position assists in the construction and maintenance of forest recreational trails, park system developments, campsites and other related forestry activities. It is a full-time, represented position with a 2006 hourly wage of $17.69/hr (less 5% for the first 6 months of the probationary period).

Minimum requirements for this position are:

1) Possess a high-school diploma, GED or equivalent;

2) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in Forestry or related field and,

3) At least 2 years of recent experience in forest land or park system management with working knowledge of timber sales and wildlife management or and combination of education and/or experience as to be equivalent.

4) Knowledge of forest management techniques and silvicultural characteristics of forest stands

5) Training and experience in GIS programs

6) Proficient in the operation of computer, software programs, GIS units and standard office equipment.

7) Proficient in the operation of equipment including but not limited to: Dozer, heavy trucks, tractors, forest spraying equipment, site preparation equipment as well as a variety of hand tools, welders and mowers.

8) Excellent written and verbal skills

9) A valid WI driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle meeting Price County Coverage Standards;

10) Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License within 6 months of date of hire

11) Possess or be able to secure a WI Commercial applicators Pesticide license.

The selection process for this position may include an employment history evaluation, a personal interview and a pre-employment physical, including drug screening.
