MAJOR DUTIES:
The incumbent serves to integrate a consistent geographic information system (GIS) approach as appropriate for program operations and management as well as national and international data analysis projects for APHIS which includes headquarters, APHIS Technical Centers, Regional, Area Offices and State and Project Cooperators.

The incumbent participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to develop programs and projects that utilize geographic or spatial data concerning plant health. He/She helps to determine and maintain high quality standards for the collection of vector and raster data relative to all Domestic and emergency PPQ Programs. Works with employees from APHIS Headquarters Staff, APHIS Technical Centers, Regional and Area Offices and other government agencies on GIS-related projects.

These projects include the use of GIS systems to: (1) Implement field survey and ancillary data into decision support systems for effective program delivery; (2) designs, develops and manages local GIS geodatabases and database management systems; (3) maintains hardware, peripherals, GPS units, networks and GIS operation systems; (4) supports risk incident management team to provide mapping and data management support; (5) provides GPS expertise, support and training to field users; (6) provides basic GIS training and support to field staff when needed.
