A project assistant is needed for a study that investigates the barriers to the effective use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in planning activities among local and regional governments in Wisconsin. The assistant will be working closely with Prof. Asli Gocmen at the Urban and Regional Planning Department and Prof. Steve Ventura at Soils Department & Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility. The assistant will have a 50 % appointment for Fall 2006 – Spring 2007. A second phase of this research is probable, in which we will develop tools for the governments to overcome discovered barriers.
The tasks for the first phase of this position consist of survey instrument development, data gathering and analysis, and reporting of results. The survey will be conducted electronically.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- knowledge of web development technologies
- collection and transferal of data from a server
- statistics and survey data analysis
- good communication skills
- good writing skills
Desired qualifications include:
- survey instrument development experience
- advanced knowledge of GIS
