Vertex Consulting is an IT leader in the GeoSpatial consulting space. For our aggressively expanding operations in the Midwest USA, we are seeking two ArcSDE specialists.

ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION:
The positions will work as a technical lead in an ESRI-based enterprise GIS environment, managing an ArcSDE implementation within an Oracle environment on UNIX and Windows operating systems. The enterprise Oracle architecture is shared by several business applications besides GIS. The spatial architecture has two goals: a) Serve and support map services – serve to several ArcIMS applications; and b) Serve and support GIS analysis and data maintenance – serve to desktop users over the LAN.

The initial task will be the migration of multi-source legacy data into a new ArcSDE environment. The position’s role will transition to that of a Geo-DBA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Maintenance and administration of the versioned as well as RI-enabled spatial databases;
– Monitoring and optimizing queries;
– Designing spatial indexes and optimizing compression;
– Performance monitoring;
– Oracle administration in collaboration with Oracle DBAs;
– Tuning and management of services and servers, including load management and service anomaly response;
– Migration of data from legacy GIS applications to ArcSDE environment;
– QA/QC of incoming geospatial data and imagery;
– Support geocoding;
– Design, create and maintain schemas for spatial databases;
– Security administration of GeoSpatial data and services;
– Establishment of recovery procedures;
– Backup, restore, replication of spatial data;
– ArcSDE troubleshooting and tuning;
– Creation/loading of vector feature classes and raster datasets;
– Writing, editing and optimizing stored procedures and triggers;
– Perform and automate administrative tasks and create custom administrative tools;
– Maintaining a library of backups, archiving and retrieving information as needed;
– Creating roles, assigning permissions;

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

– A minimum of three (3) years fulltime, paid, technical experience designing, implementing and maintaining large relational databases in a GIS environment;
– Experience with Oracle 8.0 or higher, NT Domains and Functional IDs
– Experience administering ESRI ArcSDE and ArcIMS applications in an enterprise environment
– Experience with query optimization, cursors, dynamic execution and string manipulation
– Experience with database connectivity methods using DAQ, RDO, ADO, ODBC and DBLibrary
– Experience in PL/SQL, Java, ASP and HTML
– Experience with data conversion, migration
– Software experience: ESRI Suite (ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcIMS), TOAD, Visio, ErWin
– Understanding of cartographic principles, projections, coordinate systems, map scale and accuracy and spatial analysis;
– Experience in ArcSDE troubleshooting and monitoring using SDE command line interface
– Experience managing a versioned geodatabase, multi-user editing, including designing workflow and monitoring versioned performance
– Experience in troubleshooting database permission issues and database connection
– Excellent written and oral communication skills
