Duties:
Provide technical assistance to the Great Lakes Commission in the development of the Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN) Enterprise GIS and the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS) – Data Management and Communications initiative. Implement an integrated portal for visualizing and disseminating geospatial and observational data for the Great Lakes.
Requirements:
* Knowledge of, and research experience in, geographic information science and environmental management.
* Experience with ArcGIS version 9.x and Macromedia Flash 8 software, and a willingness to learn additional software and programming languages, as needed.
* Knowledge of Open Geospatial Consortium standards and protocols thatsupport interoperability of geospatial data.
* Knowledge of FGDC and ISO metadata standards.
* Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with academic staff, faculty, administrative staff, and professional GIS specialists and water resource managers.
* Self-directed, energetic, and organized work habits.
Salary:
50% project assistant appointment for the Spring and Summer 2007 Semesters. $1,340.71/month starting January 22, 2007. This appointment includes a six-month probationary period. Successful completion of this probationary period is dependent upon job performance. Any appointment beyond August 31, 2007 is dependent on availability of funding and job performance.
Salaries are set by the 2006 contract between the State of Wisconsin and the Teaching Assistant’s Association (TAA). Health insurance, tuition remission, and other benefits will accompany each position.
