JOB SUMMARY:

MAJOR DUTIES:
This position is with the U.S. Geological Survey, Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The selectee will have the following responsibilities:
–Leads and conducts vegetation mapping projects in a variety of national parks.
–Plans complex ecological and vegetation mapping projects including estimates of personnel, equipment and materials, and coordinates schedules required to carry out highly specialized plans.
–Creates, analyzes, and interprets spatial digital data from the physical and biological sciences at local, regional, and national scales.
–Conducts accuracy assessment and analysis to validate map classes.
–Writes project reports and compiles numerous spatial database coverages, graphics, maps, posters, map and vegetation classifications, area reports, and ground photographs for the delivery of completed vegetation mapping projects.
–Using GIS technology, analyzes straightforward digital maps that contain scientific data. Creates and analyzes biological data at regional and national scales.
