The City of Sun Prairie seeks a part time hourly employee to assist with GIS data development, ongoing maintenance, data conversions, data collection, GIS analyses, and cartography. The City is creating many new data sets for its enterprise GIS. Meanwhile we are migrating data to a geodatabase format on ESRI ArcSDE. Hands-on exposure to many facets of GIS in a municipal government setting, including geodatabase development, is assured to the successful candidate.
Position Responsibilities:
-Reproject, convert, edit, or create geographic data as necessary using ArcGIS, and/or Map Info.
-Assure GIS spatial and attribute quality.
-Support development of ESRI Geodatabases. Assist with migration process from coverages and shape files.
-Frequent communication and documentation of progress will be required.
-Prepare GIS data and cartographic layouts for various City departments.
-Update and maintain a wide variety of spatial data sets.
-Support GPS data collection with ArcPad and other software.
Desired Qualifications:
-Fluent with ArcGIS (proven experience in ArcInfo and ArcCatalog).
-Experience with geoprocessing, preferably with ESRI Model Builder.
-Geodatabase experience, including creation of domains and data model development.
-Ability to independently learn new software and methods.
-Attention to detail and accuracy when editing GIS data and topology.
-Experience using relational databases – e.g. Microsoft Access and/or SQL Server.
-Understanding of concepts such as projections, datums, coordinate systems, and database relationships.
-Familiarity with GPS units and primary data collection in the field.
-Experience with AutoCAD systems and file conversion to ESRI formats.
-Be able to work at least 9 hours per week. 20 hours per week is target amount.
-Possess excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
-Work well independently and in collaboration with others.
-Familiar with metadata standards.
-Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
-A criminal background check is required prior to an employment offer.
