The Community Development Department is currently accepting applications for an internship in the Planning Services Division (May – August with possibility of extension). This position will assist the department’s professional planning staff in carrying out a variety of planning applications and special studies. The majority of the duties will involve assisting transportation planning staff with the creation of a spatial crash analysis system using GIS. Other responsibilities may include, assistance with research, data collection and analysis for land use, housing and demographic base study updates to the City’s comprehensive plan.
Candidates should have demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.1 software and be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Access. Candidates must be self-motivated, detailed oriented, have strong writing skills, and be able to think creatively as well as analytically. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed course work in transportation planning, urban planning, geography, cartography, or a directly related field of study. Hourly compensation rate based on experience and qualifications ($8.00-$12.00).
