Forester (with GIS experience)

Description:
RIPARIAN MANAGEMENT FORESTER. 50% – Assist with planning and coordination of timber sale BMP monitoring, including the review of the eligibility of timber sales for BMP monitoring with GIS and field visits. Eligibility is determined by distance to water or activities in wetlands. 20% – Assist with outreach and education efforts. Provide information to the public, industry and agency staff on the management of forested riparian areas and general forestry/water quality issues. Educational and training sessions are regularly offered at Logger Conferences and SFI Training hosted by FISTA. 15% – Prepare technical reports and informational brochures. Give presentations to private non-industrial, private industrial and public forest landowners. 15% – Work with DNR staff and external partners on forested riparian issues that involved other programs such as waterways and wetland permitting, shoreland zoning, stormwater management, and the Great Lakes.

Knowledge Required:
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Education and/or experience in forestry, water resources or soil science is required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently. Knowledge of computer word processing, databases and geographic information systems is required and the ability to learn and use special software is desired. Travel and overnight stays in Wisconsin are required.
