Basic Purpose:
Work with staff scientists to conduct analyses using geographic information system (GIS) tools and spatial modeling approaches to examine the effects of existing and proposed human activities on natural and disturbed environments, cultural resources, human land use activities, and socioeconomic conditions. Develop and maintain GIS databases and applications, prepare computer-generated maps and analysis for environmental reports and presentations.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Considerable: Knowledge of Geographic Information System/remote sensing software, particularly ESRI ArcGIS desktop software, and one or more of the following extensions and applications: ERDAS Imagine; ESRI Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Publisher, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, and ArcPad. Knowledge of current PC operating systems. Good: Knowledge of hardware such as plotters, scanners, GPS units, and/or mobile devices; concepts, data structures (vector, raster and tabular formats); and methodology. Knowledge of GIS content and metadata standards. Skill in working both autonomously and in collaborative team settings. Skill in oral and written communications. Bachelor’s Degree and 0-1 year of experience/equivalent Associate’s Degree and 9-10 years experience/equivalent.
